About Master Antiques

A Family Trade, Now in Maplewood

Master Antiques carries a European craft tradition into New Jersey homes, restoring antique furniture with patience, skill, and respect for the original.

Our story

Grown Up Around Wood

Master Antiques was founded by Peter Konopacki, who grew up in Poland watching his father and grandfather build wooden objects. He trained in carpentry and furniture restoration, then worked beside them, carrying the family woodworking tradition forward.

Peter moved to the United States in 1992 and worked in the restoration industry until 2005, when he founded Master Antiques. Today the shop is at 1988 Springfield Avenue in Maplewood, New Jersey.

With more than 25 years of experience, the shop's primary focus is French polish and wooden art restoration. Most clients are in New Jersey and New York, and many pieces are repaired on site.

Every piece is treated with the utmost care. We offer free estimates, and we will always tell you honestly what a piece needs.

What we hold to

Originality, Craftsmanship, Quality

Three principles guide every restoration we take on, from a single drawer pull to a full refinish.

01

Originality

We follow traditional restoration school rules so restored pieces retain their original character.

02

Craftsmanship

Most of the work is done by hand, in the manner it has been done in our family for generations.

03

Quality

European training and many years of experience show in the finished result.

04

French Polish

Hand applied French polish and wooden art restoration are our primary focus.

05

Respect for Patina

We strip finishes without ruining the old patina that gives antique wood its depth.

06

On-Site Service

We repair furniture where it stands across New Jersey and New York when that is best for the piece.

Both my father and grandfather were expert craftsmen in Europe.
